The exact factor
One yard is 0.9144 m by definition, so 1500 m is 1640.4 yards. That is why a 1650 yard swim is often used as the imperial stand-in for 1500 m: it is 1508.8 m, close enough for training but not for a record.
Why American pools are yards
Most US pools are 25 yards, while the rest of the world builds 25 m or 50 m pools. A 25 yard pool is 22.86 m, so a set of 100 lengths is 2286 m in the US and 2500 m elsewhere. The calculator's length columns make that difference explicit.
Converting a personal best
Converting a 1500 m time to 1650 yards is not a straight distance conversion, because the extra 50 m costs time. A rough adjustment is 3–4 seconds for the additional distance at threshold pace, plus the effect of two more turns. Use the conversion for a rough comparison, not for a record claim.
